Humble ISD Observatory

Configuration: 23 x 33 ft. Single-section Barrel Vault

Statement after winter storm in 2021:
The Insperity Observatory in Humble ISD is a roll-off roof observatory. This roof was built by Rollamatic Roofs and has served us very well for many years. The recent freeze and past hurricanes have had no impact of the operation of the roof, and no water has leaked into the observatory. It is well worth the cost and effort to install a quality roll-off roof.
Dr. Aaron Clevenson, Observatory Director, Insperity Observatory

THE CHALLENGE

Looking to enhance STEM education and create something the community could share, the Humble Independent School District raised funds to build an onsite observatory. The modest building needed to accommodate large research-grade telescopes and open to the night sky for viewing.

ROLLAMATIC SOLUTION

A sturdy single-section retractable roof protects the high-end equipment and turns the small space into an instant wide-open observatory. Volunteers help field-tripping students from the district and local colleges look at the moon, planets, and everything in the night sky. The observatory also hosts free public viewing nights every month.
