Retractable Roof (and Floor) Add Useable Living Space
Central atrium becomes multi-purpose square footage with hidden lap pool.
THE CHALLENGE
After the original build out, the homeowners decided they wanted to cover the central atrium so they could use the space for racquetball and swimming—but they didn’t want it to get stuffy in there.
ROLLAMATIC SOLUTION
By adding an operable dome on top of the atrium, the homeowners created a central piazza for exercise and relaxing. In a Rollmatic first, we engineered a solution to also make a section of the stone floor retractable. That section slides back to reveal a lap pool. The 16-foot dome roof, nested in rectangular frame, can be opened to let steam out and breezes in.
