Pet Camp – Indoor / Outdoor Play Space
Overnight and daycare “campground” for pets remains bright and fresh with the help of Rollamatic retractable roof.
Challenge:
When Pet Camp decided to remodel their main campground in the Bay View district of San Francisco, they knew they wanted to create an indoor outdoor dog play area with a lot of light and fresh air. So how do you: 1) let in a lot of light, 2) keep everything dry when it rains, and 3) allow enough fresh air in to call the space a “meadow” without it being ironic?
Plus, this all needed to be done within the restrictions of working with an older building with a metal roof.
Rollamatic Solution:
Karen Curtis, of Red Dot Studio Architecture and Design brought Rollamatic into the project to help make the dream a reality. “The idea of having a hole in our roof that’s 15 feet wide and 48 feet long to bring in all this natural fresh air is just amazing and really sets us apart in our industry,” explained Mark Klaiman, Co-Founder and Senior Counselor at Pet Camp.
The existing metal roof posed some challenges, but we figured out a way to open over 700 square feet of ceiling above the 3,300 square foot play space. The bi-parting, retracting roof can be opened and closed at the push of a button.
