Operable Dome Adds Light, Becomes Landmark
Rollamatic proves more cost effective than a stationary skylight.
THE CHALLENGE
A stunning skylight was planned atop a high-traffic hub in San Francisco’s Westfield Centre. The skylight needed to be 82×52 feet and gorgeous enough to be a defining focal point.
ROLLAMATIC SOLUTION
The builder determined that a Rollamatic roof would actually cost less than a stationary skylight since the Rollamatic could be hoisted to the roof in parts and assembled there, whereas nine stories of scaffolding would be required to install a stationary skylight. Custom light trays on the final roof create an otherworldly appearance.
